Robert Wicks
I'm a musical director, conductor, pianist and music supervisor based in London.
I've worked as a musical director since my early twenties, across the West End, UK and international tours, pantomime, cruise-line entertainment and commercial production. Piano is my primary — I conduct from the chair and with stick, the latter under John Landor's mentorship. Violin, guitar, drums and percussion sit alongside, which means I can talk shop with the people on those chairs, and that turns out to matter. The rest of the job is organisation, empathy, and making sure the score gets the respect it deserves.
Recent musical direction includes Saving Mozart at The Other Palace and American Idiot in the West End; UK and international tours of Summer Holiday, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Producers and American Idiot; and music supervision for TAG Live, NPB Music, Blackburn International, Celebrity Cruises and TUI BLUE. Wicks Music Ltd houses the commission, arrangement, orchestration and fixing work — the other side of the same craft.
